I highly recommend Karen White for anybody who is thinking about getting back in the saddle with Confidence and a support network and needs to regain the beautiful relationship with their horse that we all dream of.
The following is a little snapshot of my story and how this amazing lady gently turned us around so that we are both now enjoying our time together, unconditionally.
After having a break from horses for a number of years, I decided it was time to get back into it. After attending a few months of lessons (elsewhere), and I made the decision to get my own horse. I found this wonderful horse called ‘Peanut’, who was quite green, but I couldn’t have been happier. Unfortunately soon after bringing him home my health went downhill very quickly and I was left quite ill with very little energy. Over the course of about 4 years he was ridden on and off with very little consistency. Peanut soon learnt that I didn’t have any energy and he would try things on, making the times I did ride extremely frustrating. I often came away thinking, “What am I doing? This is meant to be fun!”
At the beginning of this year my health started to improve and I started to ride more often. After a while I decided that I would like to have a go at trail riding. I joined a club and excitably rolled up to the training day. What a nightmare it turned out to be as he behaved very badly and I had difficulty controlling him. He knocked the confidence right out of me! It was that day that I decided to get some help.
A few years before I had met Karen very briefly at Europa and in that small amount of time sensed her beautiful calming energy. I always thought I would love to have lessons with her. Well that time had come.
I booked Peanut in for some training and Karen encouraged me to come as often as I could during his training, participating in the workshops. It was great doing the workshops a very safe place to share how you are feeling and be supported and encouraged through it every step of the way.
Karen has a natural ability with horses and is able to tune into what the horse is experiencing and help it understand what you are trying to get it to do. She will do the same for the rider too, breaking things down into easy steps for you. If needed she will get on and show you how to do it, or that it is possible on the horse you’re riding.
After each workshop there is always the opportunity to sit under the Mulberry tree and enjoy a cuppa with a wonderful group of people sharing stories with each other. Knowing you’re not alone can make a big difference & it did to me.
Coming to the Mohegan Equestrian & Healing Centre is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my horse Peanut. It’s an amazing feeling to go from not even wanting to get back on Peanut, to riding around in group lessons. We now even go out on the Mohegan Training on the Trail workshops in a group, with success; it’s such a confidence boost.
Peanut and I are still learning & mentored with Karen, but with the training that Karen has done with us both, things are now achievable with lesson plans. I now look forward to going out and having a ride with a “can do” this attitude and finally having FUN doing it!!
Thank you so much Karen and everyone at Mohegan.
