This is my boy Zulu. Our journey together has been a very long one and we have both learnt so much from each other. I bought Zulu when he was 3, I had just moved over from South Africa and had no friends just Zulu, he taught me so much about myself and gave me hope that I would have a life here (I was 16). Over the last few years Zulu has developed a little float issue, and tended to rear quite big and it would terrify me so obviously I would back off and he then learned to get away with it.
6 months ago I had a bad fall (not the horse’s fault) and landed on my neck, so I was in hospital on spinal precaution as they thought I had fractured my spine. Thank God I didn’t! But I was told not to ride for the rest of the year, so of course Zulu went on spell. I lost all my confidence as each float trip (to the vet, to and from spelling) he got worse and worse. On one very bad day, my mom saw firsthand how close his rear got to me and gave me an ultimatum; “Sell him or give him to someone who can deal with that because you’re not getting hurt again”.
Obviously devastated I tried to come up with a plan that would keep us all safe. That’s when I found Karen White.
Zulu has been with Karen for nearly a week now and he is a different horse. Karen has taught me to take control and gave me my confidence back. Today Zulu got on the float, Karen stood to the side and asked him on and he walked on. This is a horse that has fought so hard not to get on and he walked on!! I was shocked and elated and finally felt hope that I had my best friend back!! These pictures show him standing quietly, which he never did before! Karen has brought him back to me and taught me so much about him and myself in just a few short days!!
God Truly put her in my life for a reason!!
Thank you Karen!
